Children will have the opportunity to learn Geographical knowledge and skills within carefully planned units of work. Units of work are built through a series of progressive lessons, moving from looking at geographical features in the immediate area and local area to knowledge of the UK, then the world. Children communicate geographical information using maps, globes, numerical information and written work.
By the time children leave our school, our aim is to develop children to think like a geographer, showing these essential characteristics:-
Knowledge of where places are and what they are like.
An understanding of human and physical features and how they are interrelated.
A broad foundation of key geographical knowledge and vocabulary.
To undertake basic field work and other geographical skills and techniques.
A real sense of curiosity to find out about the world and people who live there.
To have the skills necessary to move on to the next step of their journey towards becoming a global citizen.
