Religious Education

ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EMOTIONALLY LITERATE PUPILS

At Rednal Hill Infant School, Religious Education plays an important role in helping children develop as curious, respectful and reflective learners. Following the Birmingham SACRE Agreed Syllabus, pupils explore Christianity and a range of other principal religions and world-views represented within our local and wider communities. Through engaging and age-appropriate learning experiences, children develop an understanding of how beliefs, values and traditions influence the lives of individuals and communities.

Learning is carefully sequenced from EYFS to Year 2, enabling pupils to revisit and deepen their understanding of key concepts as they progress through the school. The curriculum reflects the rich diversity of Birmingham and provides opportunities for children to learn about different faiths and cultures through stories, artefacts, visitors, celebrations and first-hand experiences.

Religious Education is taught through enquiry, discussion and reflection, allowing children to ask questions, share ideas and make connections between their own experiences and the beliefs of others. Lessons are practical, inclusive and engaging, ensuring that all pupils can participate and succeed. Through RE, children learn to appreciate diversity, develop empathy and understanding, and begin to express their own ideas and beliefs with confidence and respect. By the end of Key Stage 1, pupils have developed a secure foundation of knowledge about different religions and world-views, alongside the skills and attitudes needed to live harmoniously in a diverse and multicultural society.
