ESSENTIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EMOTIONALLY LITERATE PUPILS

We aim to equip our children with a strong knowledge and deep understanding of the main stories of Christianity. During Key Stage 1 we will also study at least one other religion in detail and other religions of interest to pupils. Our curriculum brings together the National Curriculum and Chris Quigley Milestones, so that children have the opportunity to master key concepts and skills by repeating essential learning objectives. 

Outstanding level of religious understanding and knowledge

• The ability to feel comfortable to ask highly reflective questions about religion and  demonstrate an understanding of issues related to the value of religion
• A strong understanding of how beliefs, values, practices and ways of life within any religion cohere together
• Exceptional independence; the ability to think for themselves
• Significant levels of originality, imagination or creativity, which are shown in their responses to their learning in RE
• To be able to link religion and belief to personal reflections on meaning and purpose

Through Enquiry based sessions and the discrete teaching of RE, children will have the opportunity to become immersed in their theme, using resources (including visiting places of worship, visitors and community links), tasks and challenges to gather information and present what they have learnt.
